Have you heard about Urban Greens? It’s a consumer owned and governed food cooperative working to open a retail grocery store on the West Side of Providence. The co-op will be open to all and will support the health and well-being of its customers by offering nutritious, affordable food that is sustainably sourced, culturally inclusive, and supportive of the local food system.
After an incredible fall investment campaign and the support of over 120 total investors, Urban Greens has now raised $575,000 in community investments toward this exciting development project. They have about $25,000 left to reach their goal of $600,000 and receiving a $300,000 matching investment from the RI Foundation!

Now more than ever, members are key to the future of Urban Greens Food Co-op. That’s why they’ve launched a new member drive: 1,000 member-owners by April! With construction underway, and the store slated to open this Fall, the co-op needs to keep growing its ownership to stay on track!
The full one-time cost of a member share is $160, which can be paid in full or $40/year over 4 years. They also offer the option to purchase a low-income member share, which reduces the cost to just $80, paid in full or $10/year over 8 years.
To sweeten the deal, every new member will be entered into a raffle! Already a member? You’re already a winner … but you can win a prize too — refer a new member and you’ll be entered in the drawing!
Starting Feb 18, the folks at Urban Greens will raffle off one prize a week, every week, until April 1. So don’t delay — join today!
