The RI Food Policy Council is a network organization, and they are interested in hearing from you! The Council would like you to help determine its policy priorities for the next legislative session.
Last year Rhode Islanders were asked what policy priorities the council should focus on for the 2019 legislative session. Based on those survey results, and input from council members, the RI Food Policy Council launched its first-ever policy platform.
The 2019 legislative session was an exciting one for the food sector. There were 72 bills introduced that could have potentially impacted our food system. Most of the legislation related to the food system fell into seven impact areas:
Agriculture (9 bills)
Fisheries and Aquaculture (8 bills)
Food Businesses (11 bills)
Food Safety (3 bills)
Recycling, Recovery, and Food Waste (17 bills)
Climate Change (14 bills)
Access to Healthy Food (6 bills)
With the 2019 legislative session over, the Council is turning its focus to planning for 2020! Since the goals are always aligned with the RI Food Strategy, the Council has developed this survey using the five integrated focus areas. Within each focus area, the recommended action steps from the Food Strategy have been pulled out, with climate change added to better reflect today’s food system.
Please take the survey.
It should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Within each focus, please rank the items according to the level of importance you think it is for the RI Food Policy Council.
