AmeriCorps Week Spotlight: Ally Jennings

March 14, 2022

Happy AmeriCorps Week 2022! We can’t thank our tremendously dedicated AmeriCorps members enough. They are absolutely vital to building capacity for our programs and services — and in growing the local food system for our region!

This week we will be spotlighting each of our active AmeriCorps members. Meet Ally Jennings, our Farm to Food Pantry AmeriCorps VISTA Member.

What made you want to work at Farm Fresh RI I’ve always been really interested in sustainable practices and a supporter of environmental stewardship, and Farm Fresh’s mission really caught my eye. Having the ability to fuel my passions for service and environmental stewardship made Farm Fresh the perfect fit!

What is your favorite thing to buy from Market Mobile right now? Chocolate Rugelah from Buns Bakery have my heart. I also have loved all of the fall/winter crops so far, especially the apples, parsnips, butternut and honey nut squash. I’m excited for more summer produce to come back!

What drew you to serving as an AmeriCorps member? I had already completed one year of service with AmeriCorps NCCC in 2019 and traveled across the midwest for the entirety of my service year. I was really excited to learn about the opportunity to serve in my home state and have an impact on my local community. AmeriCorps provides the opportunity for personal and professional growth, with the added benefit of knowing you’re making a difference.

What is your favorite aspect of serving as an AmeriCorps member at Farm Fresh RI? Farm Fresh’s scope is far reaching, so it’s nice to know that my efforts, whether direct or indirect, are making a difference on our programs, the organization, vendors, and community members. Hearing positive feedback from the community, specifically those receiving fresh produce through the Food Bank and SFMNP grants, has been incredible.

What’s your favorite season here in RI, and why? My favorite season is spring! There’s nothing better than emerging from winter to fresh air, blooming flowers, and positive attitudes.

Thank you Ally, we couldn’t do it without you!

Farm Fresh Rhode Island is an AmeriCorps grantee and receives funds as part of their State and National program, and to operate our VISTA program.
