CULINARY JOB TRAINING

Harvest Kitchen offers a 20-week program comprised of 15 weeks of kitchen training and retail sales experience, followed by a 5-week supported internship. During the first 15 weeks with our chef-educators, trainees learn:

• Orientation to food service industry
• Knife skills
• Kitchen and food-handling safety
• Care and operation of kitchen equipment
• Basic methods of cooking and food preservation techniques
• Weights and measurements
• Food inventory and ordering
• Retail sales training
• Sales and marketing for the products created

During the program, trainees work toward developing a Harvest Kitchen Trainee Portfolio and receive a stipend based on attendance, participation, and completed benchmarks. Harvest Kitchen holds an awards ceremony at the end of each session to honor our graduates.

Upon completion of the program, graduates receive:

• Certificate of Completion
• ServSafe Food Handlers Certification
• Awards acknowledging participant strengths

• Applicants must be 16–19 years old and committed to working with the Harvest Kitchen Program Director and RI Harvest Kitchen Project Liaison.
• Juvenile Probation, RITS culinary teachers, and other service agencies working with youth on probation can refer youth to Harvest Kitchen.
• Applicants will be interviewed by Harvest Kitchen staff.

The RI Harvest Kitchen Project is offered in partnership between Farm Fresh Rhode Island and the State of Rhode Island. Farm Fresh RI is a nonprofit, and our Harvest Kitchen project is made possible by funding from many generous donors.
