We piloted a new after-school cooking series this fall at six different sites across the state. The program concluded with a Jr. Iron Chef Competition where students went head-to-head using local ingredients to create their culinary masterpieces.
Market Mobile producer, Bomster Scallops was founded in 1984 and is run by Kristen Ketcham & Russ Boullard, who are the Rhode Island and Massachusetts distributors for the Bomster family. Bomster Scallops are harvested, hand shucked, and rinsed in sea water to clean the sand off within an hour of being caught. Vacuum packed and flash frozen on the boat — these dry scallops will never be rinsed in fresh water.

The building that now houses Harvest Kitchen’s production and training facility, café and corner store was first developed in 1914 by Annie E. Gately, who added four retail storefronts and several offices to Pawtucket’s already thriving central business district.

Governor Gina Raimondo, Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, and other key partners joined Farm Fresh Rhode Island in celebrating the opening of their Harvest Kitchen Café + Corner Store in downtown Pawtucket, and expansion of their local food processing capabilities in the state-of-the-art commercial kitchen there. Monday’s event kicked off a week of free giveaways at Harvest Kitchen in appreciation for the community’s support.

Market Mobile producer, Blue Skys Farm is a chemical-free vegetable, herb, and flower farm in Rhode Island. The farmland that Blue Skys rents is owned and protected by the State of RI’s Department of Environmental Management and managed by Southside Community Land Trust. Six other farmers also farm at this location and the group collaboratively manages the 50-acre property, including Scratch Farm, Pak Express Farm, Big Train Farm, and Zephyr Farm.
Market Mobile producer, Barden Family Orchard, is a 30-acre farm founded in 1931 and run by Gil & Sandra Barden. The Bardens make their own sweet apple cider that’s ultraviolet-light treated (same log reduction in bacteria as pasteurization) with NO preservatives. All of the farm’s fruit and vegetables are grown using the most innovative techniques to conserve water, soil, and biological resources.
Market Mobile customer, Mei Mei is a Boston-based, family-run mobile food truck and restaurant serving modern and creative Chinese-American treats made with local meat, grains, dairy and produce. They specialize in scallion pancake sandwiches, award-winning dumplings, and all things local to New England. Their pantry line was started to bring the vibrant flavors of the food truck and restaurant into your home kitchen!
