Maria has been volunteering with us for a few months. She has worked with our Community Education team, specifically with our Healthy Foods, Healthy Families program at farmers markets. She has been a great addition to our volunteer crew and we look forward to having her join us at more programs!
Why do you volunteer with Farm Fresh RI?
I am enthusiastic about teaching adults and children in the community about nutrition, wellness, and fitness.
Do you have a favorite memory from volunteering with Farm Fresh RI?
I’ve enjoyed interacting with all the families and children as well as the Farm Fresh RI staff.
How has volunteering with Farm Fresh RI impacted you?
It has brought awareness to me as to how many families participate in the program and reasons why, including the importance of healthy eating in their household.
What did you know about the local food system before volunteering with Farm Fresh RI and what do you know now?
Having experienced this program reassures my focus on healthy nutrition and the importance of educating more people in the community about positive outcomes resulting from healthy eating.
When you’re not volunteering, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Cook, dance, read, and exercise.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about volunteering with Farm Fresh RI?
It’s a positive experience educating families in the community. They will meet friendly people whether it be local families or Farm Fresh staff/volunteers.
What is your favorite local fruit or vegetable?
All berries, and eggplant.
