Why do we offer Farm to School programming?

Many children and youth receive a large portion of their nutrition from meals provided at school.

There are many opportunities to integrate local-food learning into the schoolday, empowering students with the tools to form healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

K-12 learning institutions represent an underutilized market for local farmers and food producers to sell their products to the community.

A thriving Farm to School culture supports health-related outcomes for students and empowers youth to think critically about the food they eat. Repeated exposure through taste tests, school gardens, and lessons in the classroom leads to greater environmental awareness and an increased willingness to try fruits and vegetables. TRANSFORMING THE LOCAL HARVEST
We work with local farmers to reduce food waste by utilizing B-grade, surplus, and gleaned produce in our line of signature value-added products. Youth in our culinary training program get valuable hands-on experience creating these delicious items for you to enjoy. LEARN MORE

COMMUNITY ROOTS

TEACHING PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Our 20-week culinary job training program offers small-group sessions for youth referred by DCYF. Our trainees participate in a 15-week curriculum that includes farm visits, kitchen safety, nutrition, and cooking essentials, followed by a 5-week paid internship. Through teamwork we build close relationships, and offer continuing support to all our participants. LEARN MORE

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

SUPPORTING LOCAL FARMERS
We provide co-packing services to local growers, creating value-added items using a farm’s own recipe. And we offer private-label partnerships, producing our signature recipes for local farms to sell under their labels. LEARN MORE
