Our RI Farm to School program is highlighting local dairy as our Harvest of the Month local food promotion campaign for March. We are pleased to announce that the New England Dairy & Food Council is collaborating with us to help you celebrate!
Did you realize you are supporting your local dairy farmer when you encourage students to choose milk?
Because of dairy’s nutrient-rich package, you are also helping students build healthy bodies and minds. There are only about 10 dairy farms left in Rhode Island, and this is also a great opportunity to recognize their hard work and dedication to producing healthy, wholesome milk 365 days a year.
In March, we will feature local dairy products for Harvest of the Month.
To generate excitement among students around local dairy, we are having an Art and Writing Contest for elementary and middle school students. The purpose of this contest is to raise awareness of Rhode Island agriculture and give schools an opportunity to win a visit from a real local dairy cow or a field trip to a Rhode Island dairy farm.
We hope you and your students enjoy local dairy during this Harvest of the Month, and beyond! Remember, no matter the time of year, milk is always fresh, local, and in season!
