Happy AmeriCorps Week 2022! We can’t thank our tremendously dedicated AmeriCorps members enough. They are absolutely vital to building capacity for our programs and services — and in growing the local food system for our region!
This week we will be spotlighting each of our active AmeriCorps members. Meet Sophia Johari, our Food Access and Community Education Direct Service Member.
What made you want to work at Farm Fresh RI? I studied Nutrition and Food Studies in college, and after graduating I cooked in a couple restaurants and taught English abroad. With the Community Education team here at Farm Fresh, I get to pursue all my interests at the same time!
What is your favorite RI tradition? In January I did the polar plunge at Easton Beach in Newport for the first time! We were lucky this year — it was 50 degrees so we didn’t truly freeze until we got in the water. After getting out, the air was so warm in comparison!
What is your favorite thing to buy at the farmers market right now? Every week at the market I get mushrooms from RI Mushroom Co. and a focaccia from Seven Stars Bakery. I can’t resist!
What is your favorite season here in RI? My favorite seasons are summer and late spring when the flowers are blooming! I love to be outside, so when it’s warmer out and the days are long, I like to sit in parks to read over the weekend and play tennis in the evenings after work.
Thank you Sophia, we couldn’t do it without you!
