Happy AmeriCorps Week 2022! We can’t thank our tremendously dedicated AmeriCorps members enough. They are absolutely vital to building capacity for our programs and services — and in growing the local food system for our region! This week we will be spotlighting each of our active members, starting with Community Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA Member, Alison Macbeth!
What made you want to work at Farm Fresh? I first became introduced to Farm Fresh RI as a farmers market shopper. I immediately fell in love. Food! Music! People! It wasn’t until I was in a Social Change class at Rhode Island College that I was introduced to the food justice conversation and how Farm Fresh RI was seeking to address inequities in the food system through Bonus Bucks, education, and more. I remember sitting in my college class thinking of how cool Farm Fresh RI was. I was thrilled to find out that Farm Fresh RI hosted AmeriCorps members.
What television or book series are you into right now? Lupin
What’s your favorite RI tradition? Waterfire
What drew you to serving as an AmeriCorps member? As a recent college graduate, I wanted to serve my community, build my career, and expand my experience in the nonprofit sector — specifically with food systems. Serving as an AmeriCorps member seemed to be the perfect next step!
What’s your favorite thing to get at the farmers market right now? I discovered Buns Bakery ‘s Babka bread. Wow oh wow.
Do you have any pets? Hazel is a golden retriever puppy and her special skill is being the sassiest dog I know. (and by puppy, I mean that she’s a year old and full grown :))
What is your favorite aspect of serving as an AmeriCorps member at Farm Fresh? Farm Fresh RI’s work in Providence, and beyond, has allowed me to learn about the ever-shifting dynamics of the food system. I love that I get community members involved in the conversation as volunteers!
What’s your favorite season here in RI, and why? Summer – need I explain? ;)
Thank you Alison, we couldn’t do it without you!
