AmeriCorps Week Spotlight: Abigail Wentlent

March 14, 2022

Happy AmeriCorps Week 2022! We can’t thank our tremendously dedicated AmeriCorps members enough. They are absolutely vital to building capacity for our programs and services — and in growing the local food system for our region!

This week we will be spotlighting each of our active AmeriCorps members. Meet Abigail Wentlent, our Community Education & Harvest Kitchen AmeriCorps Direct Service Member.

What made you want to work at Farm Fresh RI? I have always loved food, so much so that I worked in the food service and a bakery for many years. I’m excited to work at Farm Fresh to see the local food and community connection.

What television of book series are you into right now? I’m currently reading Sapiens, which is a fascinating book about humankind.

What is your favorite RI tradition? My favorite tradition is getting New York System hot dogs and coffee milk.

What is your favorite thing to buy at the farmers market right now? Fruits and flowers.

Do you have any pets? I have a Shiba Inu, named Yuki. He’s 5 years old. He’s a dog, but almost a cat.

What drew you to serving as an AmeriCorps member? I’m excited to learn more about Rhode Island’s food systems, the Farm Fresh RI market system, and meeting my neighbors all across the state.

What is your favorite aspect of serving as an AmeriCorps member at Farm Fresh RI so far? Learning of new farmers, farms, and opportunities to find fresh food in the community.

What’s your favorite season here in RI, and why? Winter! I’m an avid skier, and my dog lives for the snow.

Thank you Abigail, we couldn’t do it without you!

Farm Fresh Rhode Island is an AmeriCorps grantee and receives funds as part of their State and National program, and to operate our VISTA program.
